Valerie Carol Marian Vaz is a British politician and solicitor who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Walsall South since 2010. A member of the Labour Party, she was Shadow Leader of the House of Commons from 2016 to 2021 in the Shadow Cabinets of Jeremy Corbyn and Keir Starmer.

Vaz was born on 7 December 1954 in Aden (now part of Yemen). Her family originates from Goa. Vaz was educated at Twickenham County Grammar School and later Bedford College. She attended the University of London.

In 1984 she qualified as a solicitor and subsequently worked on legal issues for local government in London. She set up her law firm, Townsend Vaz Solicitors. In 2019, she was appointed to the Privy Council. In the 2019 general election, Vaz held her seat. Vaz is chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Epilepsy.  Her hobbies include music and gardening.  She is a Catholic. (Collected from the public domain)
