Jacqueline Colaco is a lady with an indomitable spirit and resilience. She represented India in the national hockey team in 1971. At the age of 36, she was affected with a debilitating disease rheumatoid arthritis at the peak of her life when she was a banker in New York. Now at 63, she is single and is actively associated with the Association of People with Disability, rendering her valuable service to the organization which is striving for equality and justice for people with disability. She established the Arthritis Foundation (India) in 1995.
She has become an active campaigner for disability rights. Being a ‘Champion with Disability’ in the Charity Segment Run( TCS World 10K run), she aimed to raise awareness and funds for an NGO – Diya Foundation, which trains young, intellectually challenged adults to raise them to a level of independent yet assisted living.
In 2012 she received the award for being the highest fundraiser among Women Care Champions with a collection of Rs.10.01 lakhs, and in 2017 with the I Care award for highest Individual Fundraiser.
