Fr. Leslie Clifford D’Souza is the new Bishop of the Diocese of Udupi. He was ordained a priest in May 1990 and was first incardinated in the Diocese of Mangalore and later in the Diocese of Udupi.
His priestly ministry began as an assistant priest at Holy Rosary Church, Kundapura (1990–92), and later at Holy Cross Church, Kulasekara, Mangaluru (1992–95). He served as a professor and formator in moral theology at St. Joseph’s Inter-Provincial Seminary, Mangaluru (1995–97), and continued as a visiting professor until 2013. He later served as parish priest of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pangla/Shankarpur (2010–17), and Mount Rosary Church, Kalyanpur–Santekatte (2017–22). Since 2022, he has served as the parish priest of Shokamata Church, Shirva, and as the coordinator of Don Bosco and St. Mary’s educational institutions. He has also played a key role in the administration and governance of the Diocese of Udupi.
He was born on 19 August 1962 in Yermal, in the Diocese of Udupi. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Mysore. He studied philosophy at St. Joseph’s Interdiocesan Seminary, Mangalore, and theology at the Pontifical Urbaniana University, Rome. He later obtained a Licentiate and Doctorate in Moral Theology from the Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium.
