Eric Ozario

Eric Alexander Ozario is a Konkani music composer and cultural activist, as well as the founder of Mandd Sobhann, a leading Konkani cultural organization. He also founded Kalaangann, a Konkani heritage center.   Initially, he was a trade unionist. He was known for his liberal, progressive, and left-wing ideology.

Born on May 18, 1949, in Mangalore, Ozario played a pivotal role in securing the approval of Konkani as an optional language in school education in the state of Karnataka. He has also been the secretary general of the Jagotik Konknni Songhotton (JKS – Global Konkani Organisation) for many years. 

In 2009, Ozario participated in a movement to protest a plan to cut trees in Mangalore. Ozario's biography, The Indefatigable Crusader, was released in 2014.  He has been recognized by many associations with honors and awards such as ‘Konkani Kala Samrat’, Konkani Ratna, State Rajyotsava Prashasti ( 1993), Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Award (1999), and so on.

He passed away on  29 August 2025.
